Fundraising:
The single topic for this evening is establishing a fundraising strategy.

Participants reviewed the proposal request for the artists and decided to stipulate that the Hannah Cole sculpture price should be limited to $50,000. The prospectus will reflect this.

The goal is to have this first part--both the core and probably the most expensive part--of this project completed by Heritage Days in June 2004.

Considerable discussion focused on possible donors and a fundraising campaign. Amount details to be finalized later, but preliminary amounts for discussion in March are attached.

At this point, there is a proposal from the Friends of Historic Boonville to the county and the city:

The county was requested to put in $1000. The county has approved this conditional on the City of Boonville being a donor.

The City of Boonville was asked for $25,000 from gaming funds.

In both instances, the governmental units have been notified that securing of the funding would not be requested until $25,000 was raised from other sectors.

As a major goal of the outdoor arts project is to create Boonville as a destination spot that also holds tourists and visitors, the Boonville Tourism commission will be asked for $4,000.

Art is to contact Mary James to get the contact for the Crosby and Enid Kemper Foundation. An amount to request has not been set.

For the arts project, we will ask a three-year commitment from the banks. One-third of the commitment would go toward the Hannah Cole statue. The other two-thirds for timeline, murals and portal in 2005 and 2006.

Here are the fundraising target goals by sector for the Cole statue:

Boone County National Bank $3,600 ($1200 Cole statue)
Citizens Banks & Trust $4,500 ($850 Cole statue)
Citizens Community Bank $2550 ($1200 Cole statue)
Community First Bank $2100 ($700 Cole statue)
United Missouri Bank $2550 ($850 Cole statue)
Isle of Capri $6000
Boonslick Historical Society $1000
Cooper Count Historical Society ?
Hannah Cole Chapter DAR $400
Boonville Professional and Women’s Club $400
Local Civic and Social Clubs $2000
Cole Family Ancestors (direct mailing) $2500
Local school children $1200
Fundraisers and donations by public $1700
Wal-Mart $1500
Christian Church Laura Redmon Fund $1000
(Larry Sanders and Doris Viertel are on the board)

Also discussed was the possibility of some sort of Chautauqua during Heritage Days 2004 in which a woman actor would do a one-person show as Hannah Cole. If any of you know an individual who would be interested, please let us know.

In addition, there was a discussion about putting finalists/ paper renditions on a sign at the park to solicit input from citizens--perhaps voting for the final product.

There also was a discussion, since no picture or painting of Hannah Cole exists, of a contest to select a facial rendition from a woman in her 40s. Also discussed was Cole family descendants as a possible model.

Robert Bohenstiehl offered to carve a symbolic representation of Hannah Cole (12 inches to 16 inches tall) that could be raffled off or auctioned to raise monies.

Margie Brimer checked with Peacock Manor and the store is willing to display the piece for the month before Heritage Days.

I believe that summarizes the meeting.

NAP AND SELECTION COMMITTEE
A Neighborhood assistance program proposal has been submitted. monuments are not eligible, so I do not think the portion pertaining to Hannah Cole will be funded, but the other parts may. We will know by July.

ART SELECTION COMMITTEE
I really feel uncomfortable taking prerogatives without feedback from participants in this project. But I need to do some things for the grant proposal. I looked at a three-year budget, which we can discuss at our March meeting.
Also, in terms of an art selection committee--at least for the five finalists-- which is not set in stone, put people who have agreed are:

Bob Dyer
Judy Bieber Shields
Maryellen McVicker
Joe Geist
Tom Yancey
Pat Hanna
Others may need to be added.

Also, at our March meeting we might discuss a committee to recommend mural locations.
