Murals and other Outdoor Art Works, Park Name
Gary Nauman said the parks and Recreation Commission had approved the park but would like to have a plan developed.  He noted that he had been at a meeting on outdoor art and that professionals suggested that just a few works be presented rather than a large number. Consensus this should be the case.

It was suggested that Jeff Oberhaus of Vintage Hills be contacted and asked to undertake the project on a voluntary basis. Art said his regional director has a daughter who is an architect and has worked with public projects.  No effort was suggested to contact her.

Members decided not to move on future projects until funds have been secured for the current project. There was discussion  about a name for the park. Art noted that he had heard Hannah Cole Park and Pioneer Park and suggested Hannah Cole Pioneer Park be considered. He also noted he had received contact that naming the park after Hannah Cole would be confusing as there is a park side park named for her on Highway 5.

Consensus to request the Morgan Street Park be named Pioneer Park. This was not suggested as something that needed to be done immediately.

There was some discussion about a sign at the park to note progress toward the statue. No action taken.

Walter Williams Bronze Bust
Art Schneider said he had been contacted about a possible donor interested in a bronze bust of Walter Williams to be placed at the park. The donor is a descendant of the Williams' family.  Stipulations were the bust be done by Sabra Tull Meyer and that the Journalists Creed be included on the pedestal.  Group consensus to accept the donation and to secure drawing from Sabra Tull Meyer so that the project could be taken to the Arts Selection Committee. This also would require approval f the Parks and Recreation Commission ad the Boonville City Council.

Solicitation of Sculptors
Art reported that the constraint of artists from the Boonslick counties has been frustrating. He reported seeking assistance from the Missouri Arts Council and City of Columbia for a listing of bronze artists.  The result has not been fruitful. He noted more than 800 artists were listed in the web directory, but none who do bronze statues lived in the Boonslick counties. The group agreed to open the solicitation effort to those who live or have  studio in Missouri or who have been residents of the Mid-Missouri area. He also distributed three types of contracts that the City of Columbia uses.

Bob Dyer said he would submit some names of sculptors to be contacted.

Meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
