The Commission is now waiting to receive approval on these sites which is expected to occur around June 1st, with work to begin mid summer.

Due to harsh weather conditions during the past winter, and now excessive spring rains roadwork is behind schedule.  As weather conditions improve work on roads will be increased.

County engineers are finalizing plans for installation of 9 box culverts and 6 culvert pipes at various sites throughout the county.  Selection of contractor(s) by bidding process will occur in early June with work to start soon after.

March 20, 2008

On Tuesday, April 8th, the voters of Cooper County will have the opportunity to once again approve a very important Road & Bridge improvement measure.

Proposition 1 reads as follows:

Shall the County of Cooper continue a county-wide sales tax at the rate of one-half (1/2) of one (1) percent, for a period of four years, ending December 31, 2012, to be used for the construction of County road system improvements including new bridges and culverts.

This measure has funded 16 new span bridges, 121 concrete box culverts, 73 pipe installations and 16 low water crossing since its approval by voters in 1997.

To continue with needed improvements such as those listed above, your vote of "YES" will allow these improvements to continue for another 4 years.

The installation of new culverts was completed at the end of November.  A total of 49 new culverts were installed across the county during 2007 by the Road & Bridge Department.  This was an increase of 14 culverts over 2006.  An additional 10 culverts and 2 low water crossings were repaired or re-built by contractors based on their bids to the county for such work.

To date over 104 miles of various county roads have received 200 tons of rock per mile.  An additional 15 miles is to receive gravel as weather permits.

Winter has arrived.  County crews have been busy with clearing of roads of ice, sleet and tree limbs.  It is a frustrating time for all who need to travel over various roads during these extremely adverse weather conditions.  It is likewise frustrating for those who must work to clear these roads.  Machinery and equipment never seem to work like they should during these extreme conditions.  We appreciate your patience during these times and will work to get roads cleared as soon as possible.

If you have need to call concerning road conditions, please call 660-882-8215.  This number is for the Cooper County Road & Bridge maintenance building on Hwy 5 near Boonville. You may talk to a Road & Bridge employee or please leave a message.

The Cooper County Commission wishes to extend a very joyous and happy holiday season to each of you.

You may contact the Commission at the Courthouse on Monday or Thursday 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at 660-882-2228.
