What is it?

The Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) in Cooper County is very active and strives to be one of the top organizations in the State in its duties as an information source for our people.  The committee acts as a tool for both industry, public and is the central point for information on hazardous materials (HAZMAT) located around housing, hospitals, schools, and elsewhere that there is a concern for the contents of a business, structure of thoroughfare.  The committee not only answers questions and supplies information for you on matters of HAZMAT issues, it also give this information to your neighbors who are emergency responders that need to plan a safe and timely response should the need arise.   The committee is composed of our elected officials, industry, emergency responders, media, private sector and other in the community that feel the need to assist in the planning and education of the citizens of this country

What do we do for you?

The LEPC works closely with agencies in our area to plan for the remote chance of an accident occurring that deals with hazardous materials being discharged into Cooper County.  This plan is updated as the need arises or at least once each year and submitted to the state for approval.  In this plan the committee addresses what actions are to be taken to ensure the safety of the populace and what actions and training the responders will take.  The LEPC then takes the final plan and distributes it to those groups and individuals that play a role in emergency response to a chemical spill of discharge.  The committee also ensures that there is in place a way for which the public can and is informed should an accident occur so that lives and property can be saved and restored to the original condition or better.  The bottom line, Cooper County LEPC does it for you.

If you would like more information about emergency issues, the LEPC will be more than happy to assist you and your family in requesting information that effects you concerning chemicals in our community.  Contact the LEPC in writing* and state the following:
