Cobblestone Street Park

Name:  Cobblestone Street Park

Location:  Water Street Underneath Boonslick Bridge

Built: 1820s

Cobblestone Street was the first paved street west of St. Louis.  Two-blocks long, it was used to transport goods from steamboats docked on the Missouri River.  From the 1830's through 1860's hundreds of steamboats docked at Boonville  to load and unload their goods.  In 1869, the busy steamboat traffic ended with railroads becoming the dominant transport of people and goods. The first railroad was Osage Valley and Southern Kansas.

Cobblestone Street fell into disuse and, over time, was covered with dust and dirt.  It was placed on the National Register of Historic places in 1981.  The Friends of Historic Boonville and the City of Boonville joined forces to restore the old street during construction of the new Boonslick Bridge.

It took the Missouri Department of Transportation 11 years to complete the park's renovation. Today the park has three information points: one on the park's history;  another about the Old Trails National Highway bridge; and the third on Missouri River flooding.
