One of the oldest homes in Cooper County, it was once a plantation of 2500 acres settled by Winston and Polly Walker of Virginia. The simple Federal style architecture was built of hand made bricks and native stone. Begun as a one-room house, additions were made in the 1830's and 1850's with a front porch added in 1875. It has survived Civil War raids, the prosperity of the 1880's and years of neglect in the 1900's.
The period furnishing reflect 6 generations of the Walker family, active in early Missouri history. The home site by a spring was once a trail crossroads where Indians, Spanish, and later travelers stopped for refreshment heading to the Southwest from the Missouri River.
Outbuildings include an old hexagonal barn, curing shed, a surviving slave quarters under restoration and 1870 Pleasant Green Post Office building moved here to serve as a mini gallery for local artisans.
Guides in ante-bellum dress will serve coffee of tea in the dining room by advance request.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
