Peggy Guest

Peggy A. Guest, native of Kansas City, is a graduate of Park College in Parkville, Missouri, with additional undergraduate studies in fine art at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and the Kansas City Art Institute.

Peggy Guest, a native of Kansas City, began her art career as an illustrator and graphics supervisor for the federal government. She worked for the Department of Defense at Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, the Army Recruiting Command and the USDA . She has an undergraduate degree from Park College in fine art, with additional undergraduate work at the University of Missouri-Columbia and the Kansas City Art Institute.

Her husband, Joe Guest, a mid-Missouri native, has an extensive background in commercial and residential

construction and engineering. He collaborates with Peggy on the actual fabrication and installation of the artwork. His working knowledge of each piece from the ground up, is invaluable when installing pieces.

Guest and her husband, Joe, now have their own art studio near Fayette, in mid-Missouri. They take private commissions, commercial, corporate and public art on a project-by-project basis (i.e. murals, large public sculptures, exhibits).

“Our objective is to create a piece of art, either two or three dimensionally, that fits perfectly into its environment. I get inspiration from the space a piece will be, the piece almost creates itself, then.”

Her first carving was a 28-foot totem of animals and natural objects. It was carved, in place, from a 50-foot hard maple. The carving, a private commission, still stands on a the scenic bluffs overlooking the Missouri river and Katy Trail, near Rocheport, Missouri.

Her first large mural project was the Boonslick mural at Main and High Streets in Boonville, MO. which earned a Presidential award for beautification.

Her other murals include the “Mother of Counties” mural at the courthouse in Fayette, MO, as well as many other private residential commissions.

Her latest work is scheduled to begin in Slater, Missouri this summer and fall, and will cover two 125 foot walls on the main street in Slater, and another mural for Boonville High School.

The latest three dimensional work, Guest completed, is a carved mirror, four feet by five feet. It features individually carved animals and natural objects assembled together to form a collective form around the edge of the mirror.

Another three dimensional piece is “Sunning Turtles”, which was on display at the Boone County Government Building, and at Powell Gardens in Kansas City.
