GLASGOW HAS A MAYOR/COUNCIL FORM OF GOVERNMENT
The Council meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Monday of each month in the city office, 100 Market Street. Anyone, wishing to address the Council, should make those wishes known to the City Clerk no later than noon on Wednesday prior to the meeting date in order to be included on the agenda. An agenda for the meeting can be obtained at the city office beginning at noon on Thursday prior to the meeting date.
The Mayor serves for a two year term. He presides over the Board of Aldermen, has veto power, but does not vote on any question, except in the case of a tie. The Mayor also manages the everyday operations of the city.
The Board of Aldermen is composed of six elected members; two from each of the three wards. Members serve two year staggered terms.

Glasgow has a volunteer fire department consisting of 22 volunteers.
Volunteers meet on the fourth Monday of the month. The department shares resources, building and equipment with the Glasgow Rural Fire Association, which serves parts of Howard, Chariton, and Saline counties.

The Municipal Court has jurisdiction in all cases involving ordinances of the city. Court is held on the third Monday of each month in Council Chambers, 102 Market Street.

Street and road maintenance may be provided by either the city, county or state depending on location.
Utilities are provided by the city or by various public or private companies:
Water and sewer are provided directly by the city. A water deposit of $150.00 is required for initial service.
Trash and recyclables - The city contracts with a private company for pickup and disposal. Trash is collected on Tuesday, recyclables on Friday.
The city bills the consumer for these services. Payment is due by the 10th of each month to the city office. Questions about street maintenance or city provided services can be directed to the Superintendent at the above number or to the city office.

LICENSES and PERMITS

Dog license - $1.50 for male and spayed female per dog. $3.25 for unspayed female per dog. A copy of Vaccination is required.
Building Permits - $5.00 minimum fee, for construction costing less than $1,000.00 but more than $200.00. $2.00 per $1,000.00 in construction cost, for each $1,000.00 or major fraction above the initial $1,000.00.

HOUSING AUTHORITY
Affordable rental housing for low income individuals and families. Inquires and applications can be made at the Housing Authority Office.

BOARDS
All boards members are appointed volunteers, who serve for a specified term. Anyone interested in serving on a board can make their wishes known by completing an application to be kept on file at the City Office.
Arts Council - 5 members, meets as needed in the library at the corner of 4th & Market.
Board of Planning Commission - 9 members, meets as needed in the Council Chambers, 102 Market Street.
Housing Authority Board - 5 members, meets at 6 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month in the community room at the Housing Authority Office.
Library Board - 9 members, meets at 7 p.m. on the last Wednesday of the month in the library at the corner of 4th & Market.
Museum Board - 5 members, meets at 7 p.m. the 1st Wednesday of each month in the museum.
Park Board - 5 members, meets the first Monday of the month in the meeting room at the Fish Beak, 418 First Street.
Pool Board - 6 members.
Zoning Board of Adjustment - 5 members, meets as needed at the City Office.
