The Assessors Office's main responsibility is to place a "VALUE" on all real estate and personal property owned in Cooper County as of January 1 each year.

Real Estate Consists of Three Subclasses of Property:

Residential: Appraised at true market value and assessed at 19% of true market value.
Agricultural: Appraised at productivity and assessed at 12% of the productivity value.
Commercial: Appraised at true market value and assessed at 32% of true market value.

 

Personal Property Consists of Eight Subclasses of Property:

Class I: Grain (assessed at 1/2 of 1% of true value)
Class II: Livestock (assessed at 12% of true value)  
Class III: Farm Machinery (assessed at 12% of true value)
Class IV: Vehicles (assessed at 33 1/3% of true value)  
Class V: Manufactured Housing (assessed at 19% of true value)
Class VI: Historic Vehicles (assessed at 33 1/3% of true value)
Class VII: All Other Property (assessed at 33 1/3% of true value)
Class VII:  Pollution Control Equipment (assessed at 25% of true value)


If you lived and owned personal property in the County of Cooper on January 1 you will need to fill out a personal property assessment form.  Please give us a call.


We also assign all 911 addresses outside cooperate city limits.
