The house sits on the site of the Mansion House Tavern in operation in 1845 and built between 1838-42. The house was built by Charles W. Sombart to fit on a 1/3 lot, as speculation and not as his own residence. The entrance and the hall are the south bay of the west façade. An Eastlake porch extends across the west. It is raised on brick piers, has a pent roof, wrought iron now forms the balustrade. There is an ell on the north bay of the east façade which was added by 1900. A pent porch with a concrete foundation is to the south of this ell. There is a basement under the ell. The one outbuilding is a small metal shed.
