614 E. Spring

The house was built in 1892 as the residence of John Bernard, A French immigrant cigar maker.  It is a typical Queen Anne structure with an irregular plan.  The front porch with a wooden floor has spindles in the upper portion of the balustrade.  The front door has red floral patterned glass in the center and a transom with blue and gold stained glass squares around it.  In front, the second floor door goes out over the porch.  There is a balcony on the side.  The rear porch addition has brick columns supporting turned posts above.  One back room appears to be a porch that was enclosed.  The structure sits on a long, narrow lot with alleys on the east and in the rear.  One outbuilding, a frame garage and shed combination, has side alley access and a composition roof.
