The structure was built by J.N. Gott as his residence in 1887. Gott arrived in Boonville in 1866 and engaged himself in manufacturing brick. By 1869 he was appointed to the posts of Deputy County Clerk and Receiver in the United States Land Office. In 1883 he purchased the business of Brewster and Hilliard Tobacco Manufactures of which he served as bookkeeper. The main block of the truncated hip roofed structure has projecting rectangular bays with gable roofs. The roof dormers have barrel vault roofs with windows which have semi-circular headers. The double leaf entrance door is inset into the primary façade. On the north is an original two-story ell which has brackets and segmentally arched window headers. Attached to this is a one-story brick addition. The entrance on the west has a small canopy supported by brackets above it.
