302 Center

This Queen Anne style home was built in 1895 as a private residence for Mr. F. Dauwalter, an insurance man.  It was altered in 1902 to a dormitory for Kemper Military School.  It has now been returned to a single family dwelling.  The irregular plan is accented by two-and-one-half story chamfered bays on the north, east and west.  The attic level dormers are filled with fishscale shingles.  The inset entrance with ornate metal exterior doors is capped by a simple one-bay, one-story frame porch supported on turned columns.  The residence sits on an embankment across from Kemper Military School Complex.
