500 Fourth St.
The Vernacular-English Tudor
residence dates to 1930. It
replaces a structure known as the “Wilken’s House” that was used as the
parsonage and education center for the Immanuel Lutheran Church. This was razed in 1929.
The present home has a series of gable peaks and several pointed arched
openings. The entrance is the
northernmost bay of the west facade and is placed in a stepped inset on a
projecting one-story gabled bay. The
entrance has a pointed arch header with a heavy door also complimenting the
historical merit of the residence. Interior
features include cherry woodwork, cherry stairway, 11 foot ceilings, and parquet
floors. Marble slabs are under the
second story radiators. The first
story has been altered to an apartment. The
second story was altered in 1947 to an apartment.
The maid’s room was adjacent to a kitchen.
It has access from the original back stairs.
There were originally 3 rooms upstairs.
The 3rd floor was used as a ballroom.
Its large ornate cherry stairway has an ornate newel post light in the
form of a female statue. The
residence has a wooded lot, a fenced backyard, and one outbuilding.
