E. High
Built
originally as a one-story structure in the early 1880’s, the second story was
added some 20 years later. It was
built by Charles Vollrath, secretary and treasurer of Sombart Milling Company.
The house is accented by a polygonal two-story bay with a gable wall
dormer, a one-story Eastlake porch with brackets, and a gable attic dormer with
fishscale shingles. The first story
entrance originally had a Bohemian red glass transom. The interior of the house contains six rooms downstairs and 4
bedrooms upstairs. An L-shaped bay
downstairs houses an oak two-cornered stairway with a stained glass window on
the landing. An alley to the north
gives access to a gravel parking area to the rear. The residence has a grand view of the river to the north.
