811 High Street

The log and frame residence of the vernacular style was built in the 1830’s.  The room on the southwest was original log cabin.  The east room and frame addition to the north were added in the late 1800’s.  The logs are walnut, the rafters are oak, and clapboard sheathing is under the present siding.  The northwest room was changed from a porch to a kitchen in 1961.  The northeast porch was altered to a bedroom in 1969.  Oral history claims that there is a cannon ball in the east wall of the original one-room cabin.
