615 6th St.

This house was built by Jacob S. McFaddin in 1853.  He was a partner in a clothing and tailoring business.  It is believed that after the original structure was built additional rooms were built singly as needed which accounts for the elongated design.  The entrance on the east is inset and appears to have paneled exterior doors which fold back into the inset.  Ornate cast iron hoodmolds with a scroll pattern and shell keystones and brackets at the eaves accent the front.  At the alley to the west is a pole barn used as a double carport.  A gravel parking area is also along the alley.  This house is considered significant as a fine example of Greek Revival architecture. This property had fallen into serious disrepair, and was destroyed by fire (arson, to be exact) in November of 2002, and has since been razed.
