Third Street
Originally built in a Queen Anne style, the structure has been altered
and now appears in a colonial style. It
was built by William Hoge, Kemper Commandant of Cadets, in 1890. The residence was used as cadet barracks in WWI.
It has been used as a residence of Kemper presidents since 1902.
Two story columns supporting a wide entablature and roof form a porch at
the northeast corner of the structure. The
north façade has a large chimney, the south has a projecting 2-story
rectangular bay and a hip roofed enclosed porch.
Extending to the east is a one-story ell on an exposed basement.
A frame enclosed porch and deck is along the south.
There is a single leaf entrance on the south and a garage entrance west
at the basement level. The
structure was extensively remodeled in the 1930’s and again in 1968.
