Harry Brownsberger Residence

Name:  Morgan Street Repose

Location:  611 East Morgan

Street

Built:  1869

Built in 1869 this house is of Missouri German and Italianate Design.  The contractor was C. W. Sombart.  The owner of the house at the time was Harry Reed, a Foreman for Cochan's Construction Company.  Harry was killed on the job site and W.J. Cochran felt sorry and bad for Mrs. Reed so he added two stories to the earlier addition as a rental apartment for extra money.

The house has several additions.  It consists of two porches.  One has a second-story framed screened-in porch on the west side. On the south there is a one story porch with a wide overhang built in 1915.

The house later was sold to Harry Brownsberger. After his death it was purchased by Robert and Doris Shenk in 1990.  They turned the house into a bed and breakfast, known as Morgan Street Repose.  In the old home they bring guest an elegance.

This house was put on the National Historic Registry in 1981.
