THE KATY DEPOT

Name:  KATY Depot

Location:  320 First Street

Built:  May 31, 1873

The MKT Railroad opened in Boonville May 31, 1873.  The Spanish Mission style station was built in 1911-1912 on what was a livestock lot. The builder was Cochran Construction Company.  Only five Spanish style stations were constructed by the KATY.  Boonville's is the last remaining Spanish style depot.

The station was a stop for travelers headed or coming from the Southwest.  At one time, 25 to 30 trains came through Boonville each day.

May 1, 1958 was the last passenger train.  Rail freights continued until the Katy track closed in the 1970's.

In the 1990's, the railroad track became the Katy Trail State Park.  The old depot is now used for the Boonville Chamber of Commerce and as the local office of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.  In front of the old station is Katy Caboose #134.
