Morgan Street Baptist Church

Name:  2nd Missionary Baptist Church

Location:  811 East Morgan

Built:  1884, 1928

Facing south onto Morgan Street, the Church began in 1865 with 52 members under the pastorship of Grandison Roberts.  Roberts was a preacher and blacksmith.

From November 1865 through December 1867 they met in Roberts' blacksmith shop while raising funds to purchase the land and begin church construction. In 1867 services were held in the church and it remained  in use until 1884 when destroyed by fire.

Later that year members began construction of the present Morgan Street Baptist Church.  Through the years there have been several renovations, including a rear chapel, the addition of a basement kitchen and dining area.  In 1956 the south brick sidewalk was replaced.

The church has served as a source of strength, inspiration and leadership to the African-American and Boonville community.
