Nelson Memorial Methodist Church

Name:  ME Church South, Methodist Church

Location:  407 Spring Street

Built:  1915-1917

Nelson Memorial is of Gothic style design built from 1915 to 1917. It sits at the northeast corner of Fourth and Spring Street facing south to Spring Street.  The church front has two square corner towers.  Between the two towers is an arched stained glass window.

This is Boonville Methodists' third church building.  In 1915 Nadine Nelson Leonard donated $500 for the building to be put in her parents name as a memorial.  Her sister, Mrs. Margaret Nelson Stephens, donated money for the pipe organ in memory of her husband, former Missouri Governor Lon Stephens.  In 1916 the corner stone of the church was laid.  The church was finished and dedicated in 1917.

An Education Building was added in 1965 to the north.  It is two stories high and is built with the same white ashlar brick as the original segment.  The kitchen was remodeled in 1964 and the sanctuary redecorated in 1965.
