First Presbyterian Church
Name: First Presbyterian Church
Location: Main and Vine Streets
Built: 1904
Built in 1904, the First Presbyterian Church building replaced earlier churches built in 1841 and 1872. It is located on Main and Vine Streets, facing east. It is a wonderful example of Baroque architecture.
In 1920 an addition was made to the church. A one-story brick Sunday School building was added to the northwest corner in 1920. The Educational Building and Church offices are in a two-story building located at the southwest corner, 417 Vine Street.
The pipe organ was originally used as a theater organ in Kansas. In 1941 it was purchased and donated to the church by the Pigott, Johnston, and the Hitch families.
