MO-RIVER.NET BOARD MINUTES |
Howard County Home Health Agency
Meeting Room
Former Keller Memorial Hospital Building
Fayette, Mo.
Friday, November 20, 1998
Members Present: Darin Starr, Harry Stone, Tom White, JoAnn Sullivan, Bill Sullivan, Jeff Maddy and Jene Crook. Also present: Bill Taylor, Michelle Howard and Sandi Cox.
Call to Order: The meeting of the board of Mo-River.Net was called to order at 10:30 am, Friday, November 20, 1998 by President Darin Starr.
Minutes: Bill Sullivan moved, and Harry Stone seconded, to approve the minutes of the prior meeting. The motion carried.
Treasurer's Report: JoAnn Sullivan moved, and Jene Crook seconded, to approve the treasurer's report. The motion carried.
Teamwave: The Teamwave test was discussed. Nick Clark has tried the software and likes it. Jeff Maddy tried to participate in the test of the program but was unable to get connected. Teamwave would permit the group to have meetings via computers rather than traveling to various locations. A new version of the program might permit actual conversations rather than just typed comments. Jeff has talked to the Teamwave company about getting the program for us as a demonstration project but has been unsuccessful thus far. He feels that the best use of the program would be for special projects like grant proposals but could be used for an occasional meeting. One major benefit is that Teamwave works across various platforms. Jeff will pursue his talks with the company.
Community Calendar: What happened to the Community Calendar? The board discussed the community calendar idea. Darin Starr reported that he has checked on software and that most groups posting a calendar seem to be using the same program. His concern is who would be responsible to maintain the calendar and make necessary changes. JoAnn Sullivan asked if we need an actual calendar program. It might work to simply use a web page for each week and edit it like any document. One issue is that we still need to increase awareness of Mo-River.Net or a calendar will be of little interest to groups with events to post. On the other hand, a calendar might be one way to draw people to the web site. Bill Sullivan mentioned that Marty Tichenor has also looked at some calendar programs. Bill will ask him about his findings. Michelle Howard mentioned that there is a very successful calendar that is being printed in Fayette and distributed free through the grocery stores. She will check with Laythan Scott who manages that calendar to see how he runs it and whether he would be interested in cooperating with us. Bill will check with their local radio station about their calendar of events. Darin Starr will talk to Darlene Kraus about setting up space on the web site.
KMMO Home Show: The KMMO Home Show in Marshall was reviewed. Darin Starr and Bill Sullivan were enthusiastic about the number of people who attend and who could be reached if we had a demonstration set up. We need to plan ahead for the next show in March, 1999, and have a demonstration ready. We will also need people to work the show. We should also watch for comparable events in the other counties.
Development of Web Pages was brought up. Are any of us using Front Page to help others develop web pages? That was the basis on which we acquired the software. Extension will be doing trainings in January. One of the training sessions will be held in Sedalia, with one day being open to the public if we still need help.
We should consider approaching groups on Community Connection and inviting them to do an actual web page.
Community Connection Update: Michelle Howard is working with the start-up in Howard County. She indicates that convincing people to sign on is still difficult. Howard County only has about 30 groups to date. Darin Starr indicates that there are about 100 groups in Saline County and that they are looking for ways to go out and reach additional groups.
Next Meeting: The next board meeting is scheduled for Thursday evening, December 17 at 6:30 in Boonville. The meeting place will be announced later. Harry Stone suggested David Barton's school, but we would need to arrange it.
Meeting adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Jene Crook, Acting Secretary
