MO-RIVER.NET BOARD MINUTES

Mo-River.Net Board Meeting

December 18, 1998

Boonslick Vo-Tech Center, Boonville

Board members Present: Nick Clark, Jene Crook, Jeff Maddy, Art Schneider, Darin Starr and Bill Sullivan.

Others Present: Ichiro Matsuda.

The meeting was called to order by Darin Starr at 6:44 p.m.

Minutes: Bill Sullivan moved and Jeff Maddy seconded that the minutes be approved as distributed. Unanimously approved.

Treasurer’s Report: Art Schneider reported $463. 24 is in the account plus two Front Page 98 CD-ROMs. Darin Starr said he would discuss Front Page 98 with the Marshall Career Center.

Teamwave: Nick Clark said the cost for Teamwave, which is a program that allows conferencing via the Internet, would be $40 a seat (copy).

He suggested Mo-River.Net could sell seats as a revenue producer. Teamwave can handle both MAC and IBM-compatible programs. Nick added that some meetings (board committees) could be conferenced by Teamwave. As a cutting edge technology, demonstrated use by Mo-River.Net, he suggested, would model how other organizations in the community could use this technology.

Board then adjourned for 75 minutes so that board members could gather experience with the Teamwave. Brad Hartman of Mid-Mo.Net handled the administration of the program and Brad Johnson of Team wave was the demonstration person (out of Canada).

At 8:15 the board reconvened. Darin Starr suggested the Teamwave had a steep learning curve. He also noted it would require a reliable server and perhaps some teaching.

Bill Sullivan asked if there was a demonstrated need for Team wave. Darin also asked which businesses in the three counties would use this and whether the chamber would use it? He noted that NetMeeting is on some Microsoft products.

Jeff Maddy said that for winter meetings the board in lieu of presence at a site would use this in one of the counties.

Bill asked if Teamwave would be willing to provide a limited number of copies for free use as demonstrations to other groups. Nick said he would check on this.

Art Schneider suggested the Extension Center could be used as a server for meetings.

Advertising of Mo-River.Net:  Bill Sullivan suggested that Mo-River.Net consider advertising through other media, such as radio and newspapers to promote awareness and usage.

Darn Starr said the Saline Extension Center offers a three hour Internet introduction class for $20, but that if representatives of human service providers or volunteers agree to work with Community Connection that the fee is waived.   He has offered classes at the Career Center in Marshall.

Meeting adjourned at 9:05 p.m.

Next board meeting will be at 10:30 a.m. January 18 at the Marshall Library in Marshall.

Respectfully submitted,

Art Schneider
Board Secretary/Treasurer
