MO-RIVER.NET BOARD MINUTES |
Mo-River.Net Board Meeting
May 21, 1999
Boonslick Industries Meeting Room
Boonville, Mo.
BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Art Schneider, Darin Starr, Bill Sullivan and JoAnn Sullivan.
CALL TO ORDER: President Darin Starr called the meeting to order at 10:45 a.m.
MINUTES: Bill Sullivan moved and JoAnn Sullivan seconded approval of April meeting minutes with two changes: Virginia Wessing noted as Mo-River.Net member, not board member, and meeting location Boonslick Bank South, not Boonville Bank. Approved with changes.
TREASURERS REPORT: Art Schneider reported that the board has $540.55 in its account. No expenses.
Bill Sullivan encouraged developing additional corporate memberships and support. He also suggested looking at the Boonville IDA site and the improvements Tracy Walkup has brought to the page there.
Art Schneider also noted that he has filed the 990 IRS filing report and that since Mo-River.Net Inc. has less than $25,000 income, it was minor work. Bill Sullivan moved and JoAnn Sullivan seconded approval of the treasurers report. Approved.
FUTURE MEETING LOCATIONS: Art Schneider reported only five responses to meeting time and location. The respondents were divided on rotating (two for, two against and one no difference) and times.
It was noted that since the rotation of locations, board attendance has dropped dramatically. After considerable discussion on alternatives, Bill Sullivan moved that the next six meetings be held the third Friday of the month at the Home Health meeting room in Fayette. He noted that it is on the highway, easily accessible, has ample parking, and it about midway for Cooper and Saline members. Art Schneider seconded. Passed.
Bill also noted that we should look into establishing closer linkages with the Chamber in Fayette. Art Schneider volunteered to contact Georgette Koelker, chamber president in Fayette, and have her contact Bill Sullivan.
Bill Sullivan also suggested news releases on Mo-River.Net in each of the counties.
BOONSLICK HERITAGE DAYS: Bill Sullivan added about staffing both June 26 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for Boonslick Heritage Days. This would be adjacent to the Chamber's booth. At the old J.C. Penney Building, Morgan and Spring streets. He asked that a note be sent to Mo-River.Net members seeking volunteers. The chamber will provide the brochures for Mo-River.Net that Darin Starr prepared.
Bill Sullivan noted he received call from Washington State seeking Mo-River.Net information. He asked the caller if s/he had Internet access. Learning they did he directed them to the Mo-River.Net site. S/he called afterwards and let him know s/he was quite pleased with all the information that was up on this area.
Art Schneider circulated a flyer for a workshop Kansas City that noted doing business on the web was one of the three hottest business topics of the year!
CALENDAR: Darin Starr reported that he will contact Mid-Mo.Net to see if it would host a calendar page. He also has made some modifications to the calendar program he has designed.
VIRTUAL TRAINING: Darin Starr reported that on May 25 there will be an announcement in Marshall about a Virtual Training initiative involving Raytheon Corporation, Missouri Valley Human Resources Council and the University of Missouri at Kansas City. There would be a learning center, a site to encourage biotechnology by businesses in rural areas, and small business incubator projects. He said part of the focus is to retain youth in the communities and to encourage businesses to locate in rural areas because there would be a rural quality of life and economic opportunity.
ADJOURN: Meeting adjourned at Noon
Respectfully submitted,
Art Schneider
Board Secretary/Treasurer
