MO-RIVER.NET BOARD MINUTES |
September 17, 1999
Mo-River.Net Board Minutes
Old Keller Memorial Hospital Building, Fayette, MO
Members present: Art Schneider, Harry Stone, Bill Wood, Bill Sullivan, Jene Crook
Call To Order: The meeting was called to order at 10:35 by Jene Crook.
CIN Conference: Bill Sullivan shared a message he had received concerning a planning meeting for the CIN Conference which will be held April 12 and 13, 2000 at Tan-Tar-A. The planning meeting is to be held September 22 in Columbia. Art Schneider indicated that he was planning to attend. Bill agreed to forward the meeting notice to Jene Crook so that she could forward it to the other board members.
Telecommunity Center Memberships: A question was raised concerning the possibility of getting new memberships from the Telecommunity Center in Fayette since Jeff Maddy has left. Art indicated that he has talked to Georgette Koelker about membership.
Minutes: Reverting to the minutes of the last meeting, Bill Sullivan moved and Harry Stone seconded that the minutes be approved. The motion carried.
Checking Account: Jene Crook announced that the new checking account was set up and the balance in the account was $870.55.
Banner: Art Schneider has been trying to get information about the Mo-River.Net banner. He has been unable to contact the lady who is to be making it. He will keep trying.
Calendar: Art has talked to Mark about the calendar we have been trying to organize. Mark has found a calendar program that he wants us to consider. There is an online demo at www.calendarcentral.com that we need to tryout. The program is expensive at $2,900 but we should be eligible for at least a 30% discount. All members are encouraged to try the demo and bring comments to the October board meeting. Bill Wood commented that we would probably need to solicit corporate sponsorships to buy such an expensive program. He asked about the possibility of loading a demo on a laptop to show potential sponsors. Art will check with the company.
Mark also told Art that he is moving Mo-River.Net to a larger and faster server. He is planning to come to the October board meeting.
Promotion: Harry Stone showed the group some information cards for Mo-River.Net that he is creating using his computer. Some suggestions were made for modifications.
Bill Sullivan commented that the Boonville Chamber of Commerce receives calls for local information daily. He always asks if the caller has internet access and 60% of the callers say yes. We need to work on promoting the website.
Information is still skimpy concerning Saline County. We need to get the county schools listed. We need to check with Marty about whether there might be volunteers at the prison to update information. Vicky McCarrell at Unlimited Opportunities might also have some people available to enter information.
Interns: Darin Starr has expressed an interest in working with Missouri Valley College in Marshall. The college makes interns available to non-profit organizations. The students receive credit hours for working in lieu of pay. An intern with computer experience could help post additional information on the website. The board liked the idea.
Promotional Ad: Bill Sullivan reported on the proposal from Classic Cable that we pay $250.00 for a 30 second ad which would be run at various times as a local origination ad on several cable channels. Bill reported that for the $250 we would actually own the promotional spot and could take it to other cable systems in the tri-county area to acquaint more people about the information we have available. Bill will invite Ron Niblick to our October board meeting to further explore the idea. The board is very interested in the idea.
Next meeting: The next board meeting will be held October 15, 1999 at 10:30 am at the old Keller Memorial Hospital Library.
Respectfully submitted,
Jene Crook
Secretary-Treasurer.
