Members present: Harry
Stone, Art Schneider, Bill Sullivan, Jo Ann Sullivan, Darin Starr, Jene Crook
Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 10:40 a.m..
Changing World of Internet Services: The initial discussion centered on
potential changes in the Internet service area. Bill Sullivan noted
that Earthlink is conducting mass mailings with plans to move into the central Missouri
area and Classic Cable is offering cable modems in parts of our area. This may have a
significant impact on our local ISPs and consequently on Mo-River.Net's access to a server
to house information. He suggested that MACIN ought to be discussing the issue. Art
Schneider commented that we should have a page on Mo-River.Net listing all
the local ISPs in our area.
Minutes: The minutes were presented. Art moved
and Jo Ann Sullivan seconded that the minutes be approved. The
motion carried. Jene Crook reported that there is $816.08 in the
checking account. Bill Sullivan reported that he believes he has
a new corporate sponsor -- all we need to do is contact the sponsor for the money.
Internship--Darin Starr reported that he has
not had any contact from the Missouri Valley College intern. Darin will try to contact the
student.
Web Page Updates--Darin asked for a progress
report on the updates to the web pages. Jo Ann reported that the
updates are in process, but they take time. She has been trying to improve the
organization of the information on the site, including segregating some information by
county to minimize the amount of scrolling necessary to find things. She has also had
other commitments requiring her attention but hopes to have some time available soon.
Calendar--Harry Stone reported that no one has
submitted events for the calendar yet.
Page Format--A question was raised about the web page format--shouldn't
the format be consistent across all pages to help with identity and usability. Jo
Ann suggested that we look at the community page for our pattern.
Statistics Page--Art mentioned that he has
hopes of developing a statistics page for the site. He would like to provide statistical
information about each of the counties.
Arts Pages--The board also discussed developing arts pages and whether we
should leave arts combined with recreation or whether the topics should be split. We would
like to make a major push to promote the artists in the area. Some information is already
available, including some images of artworks that are ready for posting on the web site. Jene
will inquire about whether a list of Saline County artists exists.
Membership List--At the next meeting, the board will review the
membership list.
Home Page Hits--Bill commented that his office
continues to do an informal count of hits on the web site. We appear to be averaging 30
hits each day.
Next Meeting--The next meeting will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 18,
2000, at the Boonville Extension Center.
Respectfully Submitted,
Jene Crook
