Members present: JoAnn Sullivan, Bill Sullivan, Harry Stone, Art Schneider, Darin Starr, Jene Crook
Call to order: The meeting
was called to order at 10:35 am by Darin Starr.
Minutes: Bill Sullivan moved and Harry Stone
seconded that the minutes be approved as presented. The motion carried.
Treasurer's Report: Jene Crook, treasurer, reported that Day's Inn of Boonville has joined Mo-River.Net. There is $816.08 in the bank, plus the $5.00 from Day's Inn and $5.00 from JoAnn Sullivan for a total of $826.08. Bill Sullivan moved and JoAnn Sullivan seconded that the treasurer's report be accepted. The motion carried.
Businesses in Howard and Saline Counties: Georgette Koelker has indicated to several members that she will encourage the Fayette Chamber of Commerce to join Mo-River.Net. They are in the process of building a web page and may need some help. Darin indicated along the same lines that the Marshall Chamber Executive Vice President has suggested that he visit with local merchants about e-commerce. Bill will call Georgette about visiting her board to encourage them to build web pages. Darin offered to help. One basic recommendation for the group is that they purchase Front Page because that is a common "language" enabling assistance from several people. Two potential resources in the Fayette area would be Nancy Hendrick and Sharon Young. JoAnn would like to have someone in Howard County help work on the Howard County pages. She doesn't know the area well enough to do it justice and she has her hands full with what she wants to do for Cooper County. She also suggested that we add something to our web page about joining our group. The group repeated the need to send letters to corporate sponsors about renewing their sponsorships. Jene will try to get letters out.
Mo-River.Net Video Commercial: Darin initiated the discussion about the commercial. Now that the web page updates are well under way it is time to get back to doing the ad. We need 10 items that we would like to include. Darin's proposed list is as follows:
1. URL
2. What is Mo-River.Net?
3. Come see what we have.
4. Come see our community.
5. Activity calendar.
6. Corporate sponsors.
7. A scene of the Missouri River.
8. A slide show of area scenes or web pages.
9. Invitation to be a part of MO-River.Net.
10. "The Internet can take you out of town."
There was some elaboration about how the ideas could be implemented, but the group basically agreed with Darin's list. Darin will contact Ron Nedblake and then contact the rest of the committee. If there are any other suggestions from the membership, Darin requests that we send him an e-mail at StarrJ@missouri.edu
Elections on web: Art Schneider mentioned that we have an election coming up. He would like us to arrange to post results as they are available in real time. We would need two people in each county courthouse to post the information. We could also post links to state and national results. We will work on the logistics.
St. Patrick's Day: Harry Stone mentioned that Boonville will have a St. Patrick's Day parade Friday, March 17. If possible we could have two people carry our banner in the parade with another one or two to hand out our brochure. Bill suggested that the schools will be out so we might be able to find a few high school students to walk in the parade. Harry will see if he can line it up. Perhaps we should see about two more signs so we can have one in each county. We could even use them election night.
Memorandum of Agreement with Cooper County Emergency Services: Art presented the Memorandum of Agreement with Cooper County Emergency Management as proposed by Tom White. As presented, they would create and maintain the page and the information on it. We would simply provide the forum. Art told them they would need to purchase the necessary software to maintain the pages. Art will follow up with Tom White to clarify the memorandum and how it would work.
Information:JoAnn commented on the amount of information we have and the amount we could have if someone had the time to post it. The group acknowledged the need to find funding to pay someone to maintain the web pages. Subsequently the group entered into a discussion about the pages and what we can do to improve them, after which the meeting adjourned to Darlene's computer to review a web page format Darin is experimenting with.
Next Meeting: The next
meeting of Mo-River.Net will be Friday, March 17, 2000, at 10:30 am at the Boonville
Extension Center. Jene Crook noted that she will be unable to
attend and an acting secretary will be needed.
Respectfully Submitted,
Jene Crook
Secretary-treasurer
