MO-RIVER.NET BOARD MINUTES

September 15, 2000
Cooper County Extension Center
Boonville, MO

Members Present: Darin Starr, JoAnn Sullivan, Bill Sullivan, Art Schneider, Bill Wood, Harry Stone and Jene Crook

Others Present: Gu-Ree Beam

Call to order: President Darin Starr called the meeting to order at 10:30 a.m.

Minutes: Bill Sullivan moved and Bill Wood seconded that the minutes of the August meeting be approved. The motion carried.

Treasurer's Report: JoAnn Sullivan moved and Bill Sullivan seconded that the treasurer's report be approved. The motion carried.

E-mail from Australia: Bill Wood shared an e-mail that he had received from a lady in Australia that was very complimentary of the Mo-River.Net website.

Boonville Tourism Grant Information: Art Schneider handed out information on the Boonville Tourism Grant. Art Schneider discussed the proposal he had made for a Boonville Tourism grant. As he learned more, however, he concluded that the grant requirements are extremely restrictive and require more volunteer work than is feasible for our group. He recommended against trying that grant program again. .

New Corporate Sponsor: Bill Wood announced that Rivercene Bed & Breakfast has decided to become a corporate sponsor.

Mo-River.Net Commercial: Darin Starr announced that he had talked to Ron Nedblake about the Mo-River.Net commercial. He faxed to Ron the ideas the board had discussed about the commercial and Ron was to get back to him about production. Darin has also talked to Marshall Cable TV. We will probably be able to put a page on the local information channel. Harry Stone has talked to Classic Cable about putting an announcement on the Boonville cable.

Web Page Contest: Art Schneider handed out a proposal for the Webpage contest we are proposing. Art set up four age categories, including all ages from 5 to 95. The group proposed running ads in November and December and setting a March 1 entry deadline. JoAnn suggested setting up a contest page on the website. Since we want the broadest possible coverage of subjects, Art proposes that each potential contestant submit a preliminary topic for approval before being allowed to compete. JoAnn could then list a table on the contest page to let people know which topics have been chosen. The board postponed final decisions until the October meeting pending a review of finances.

General Election: Art Schneider and Darin Starr have worked on the plan to post election results on the internet in November. For logistical reasons, they have decided that, instead of setting up equipment at each courthouse, it will be more efficient to have one person at the courthouse calling information to Extension office computer operators. We would maintain an open line between the courthouse and the office to relay counts as quickly as possible. Darin will check ad prices in Marshall, with the caveat that if we pay the Democrat News, we will probably not be eligible for free public service announcements on KMMO for the same project. We need to verify that the counter on the website is working so we can see what kind of response we get.

Grant Application: Bill Wood announced that he had submitted a grant application to a Boonville church which makes grants for community projects. He expects the grants to be awarded before the next board meeting. In his grant, he identified a need for software, but the grant may not be so restrictive that we couldn't make reasonable reallocations.

Welcome Wagon: Harry Stone announced that the Boonville Welcome Wagon is distributing our Mo-River.Net calendar cards.

Adjournment: JoAnn moved and Harry moved that the meeting be adjourned.

Next Meeting: The next meeting will be Friday, October 20, 2000 at 10:30 am in Boonville.

Respectfully submitted by

Jenne Crook
Secretary/Treasurer
